The Case for Patents
Daniel F. Spulbur, Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University
Daniel Spulber is the Elinor Hobbs Distinguished Professor of International Business and Professor of Management Strategy at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, where he has taught since 1990. He is also Professor of Law at the Northwestern University Law School (Courtesy).
He is the Research Director for the Searle Center on Law, Regulation and Economic Growth. He served as the founding director of Kellogg’s International Business & Markets Program.
Dr. Spulber received his Ph.D. in economics in 1979 and his M.A. in economics in 1976 from Northwestern University and his B.A. in economics in 1974 from the University of Michigan. He has received eight National Science Foundation grants, three Searle Fund Grants, and three Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation Grants for economic research. He is the founding editor of the Journal of Economics & Management Strategy published by Wiley-Blackwell Publishing. Spulber’s research is in the areas of International Economics, Industrial Organization, Microeconomic Theory, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Management Strategy, and Law.
One of the top-ranked economists in the United States, his research which has been cited by the Supreme Court has been published in numerous journals and law reviews, including the American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Review of Economic Studies, Journal of Economic Theory, Rand Journal of Economics, International Economic Review and the Journal of Economic Perspectives.

Rapid Research with Dr. Kristof Coussement
Kristof Coussement, Professor of Business Analytics at IÉSEG School of Management
Kristof’s research in business analytics develops decision support frameworks including work on incorporating textual data sources into conventional modeling and deep learning methodologies. His academic research has been widely published in international peer-reviewed journals including Research Policy, International Journal of Forecasting, Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery and the Journal of Marketing Management. He serves as Senior Editor at Decision Support Systems and is founder/Chair of the IÉSEG School of Management Center for Marketing Analytics (ICMA).
Kristof has led several research projects for large European companies, including La Redoute, InSites Consulting, Leroy Merlin and Crédit Agricole. In teaching, Professor Coussement co-developed an online methodological course “Text Analytics” for BlueCourses and he chairs a post-graduate MSc in Big Data Analytics for Business. Kristof has a PhD in applied economics from Ghent University and a HDR in Business Administration and Marketing from University of Paris Dauphine.

2019 Meet the Editors
The Lazaridis Institute hosted a one-day workshop on "publishing for the premiere entrepreneurship and management journals."
Hosted by Nicole Coviello, our workshop leaders were:

- Johan Wiklund (Editor-in-Chief, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice)
Jeff and Johan lead the two top entrepreneurship journals in the world. They also have significant experience publishing in (e.g.) AMJ, AMR, AMP, JoM, SMJ.
2018 Entrepreneurship Research Day
The 2018 Entrepreneurship Research Day included a panel of world-leading scholars sharing their unique perspectives on the issues and trends emerging in entrepreneurship research. We also ran an interactive Paper Development Workshop facilitated by the three panelists and three visiting journal editors, and we celebrated graduate student research with a competitive poster session judged by our expert panelists.
