The Lazaridis Institute for the Management of Technology Enterprises was established in 2015 to help Canadian tech companies scale and compete globally while maintaining strong Canadian roots.

Mike Lazaridis, founder of BlackBerry, spearheaded the initiative with a $20 million donation following discussions with Micheál Kelly, then Dean of Laurier’s School of Business and Economics. This, alongside $15 million from the Ontario government, led to the creation of the Institute named the School of Business and Economics and funded Lazaridis Hall.

Lazaridis’ pioneering work in mobile communications and his role as a founding partner of Quantum Valley Investments (QVI) continue to influence the Institute's mission to support Canadian firms in becoming world-class competitors.
