Lazaridis Institute award for the Journal of Business Venturing’s best paper

The 2019 winner of the Lazaridis Institute award for the Journal of Business Venturing’s best paper is “Discounted: The effect of founder race on the price of new products” authored by Peter Younkin, Assistant Professor of Management at the Lundquist College of Business, and Venkat Kuppuswamy, Assistant Professor, Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the D'Amore-McKim School of Business at Northeastern University.

With the generous support of the Lazaridis Institute at Wilfrid Laurier University, this award comes with a cash prize of $2,000 CAD (to be split between the authors) and a plaque denoting their achievement.

This research used experimental methods to survey consumer attitudes towards new products launched by founders when the race of the founder is known. They delved into the source of race-based biases that lead to lowered expectations of new product prices when a founder is black. Published in the premiere journal for entrepreneurship research, this study advances important insight on a critical issue.   For a summary of this research, click here.
